We congratulate our colleagues on the publication of a very interesting scientific paper titled “La protein binding to telomerase RNA supports an evolutionary relationship between plant and ciliate telomerase pathways.”

13. 5. 2026

Our work reveals that La protein binding to telomerase RNA connects plant and ciliate telomerase pathways, pointing to an unexpected evolutionary relationship between these distant eukaryotic lineages. Using RNA pulldown experiments, yeast two-hybrid and yeast three-hybrid interaction assays, and quantitative RNA-protein binding measurements, we demonstrate how La protein stabilizes telomerase RNA and promotes telomerase RNP assembly. These results provide new insight into the evolution and biogenesis of telomerase ribonucleoprotein complexes. https://doi.org/10.1093/nar/gkag216
