Mendel Festival in Brno (July 12–19, 2026) – Augustinian Abbey Grounds, Mendel Square – IBP booth featuring experiments and presentations

We invite you to the Mendel Festival in Brno, which will take place on the grounds of the Augustinian Abbey on Mendel Square. Be sure to visit the IBP booth, where we’re preparing interesting experiments, demonstrations, and presentations that will bring science to life in a fun and accessible way for both children and adults.
Come try things out, discover, and ask questions—our booth will offer a space for meeting others, finding inspiration, and seeing hands-on demonstrations. You can look forward to a program that combines learning, playfulness, and direct contact with what IBP does.

We congratulate our colleagues on the publication of a very interesting scientific paper titled “La protein binding to telomerase RNA supports an evolutionary relationship between plant and ciliate telomerase pathways.”

13. 5. 2026

Our work reveals that La protein binding to telomerase RNA connects plant and ciliate telomerase pathways, pointing to an unexpected evolutionary relationship between these distant eukaryotic lineages. Using RNA pulldown experiments, yeast two-hybrid and yeast three-hybrid interaction assays, and quantitative RNA-protein binding measurements, we demonstrate how La protein stabilizes telomerase RNA and promotes telomerase RNP assembly. These results provide new insight into the evolution and biogenesis of telomerase ribonucleoprotein complexes. https://doi.org/10.1093/nar/gkag216

Proposers from the BFÚ prepared a total of 26 projects for the Grant Agency's public competitions.

31. 3. 2026

The proponents from the BFÚ prepared a total of 26 projects for the Grant Agency's public competitions: 4 LA projects with foreign partners from Poland, Slovenia and Switzerland. 21 standard projects and 1 PIFO project.
10 standard projects were prepared for the position of coordinator, 11 for the position of partner.
Fewer projects were submitted to this year's grant competitions than in previous years, due to new restrictions on the number of projects submitted by individual proponents, which were set by the GAČR itself. It is thus responding to the ever-decreasing volume of funds allocated to basic research. The results will be published on 26.11.2026
