What was your research journey before joining Sedlackova lab?

I did my master’s in biotechnology from Amity University, Mumbai, India. During my master’s thesis in Saha lab at Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA), Vienna, Austria; I learned a wide range  of molecular and cell biology techniques while working on understanding the role of macromolecular phase separation in C.elegans germ cell fate. Following my masters I joined Rapti lab at EMBL, Heidelberg, Germany as an intern where I employed the skills of working with C.elegans to explore the development of pioneer neurons in early stages of worm development.

I was determined to pursue my PhD in field of molecular and cell biology and my search led me to Sedlackova lab. Joining the lab has been a great leaning experience for me; I find supervision of Dr. Sedlackova along with brainstorming sessions and project discussions to be intriguing and motivating.

What are you currently working on? Why do you find your project/work fascinating?

My focus is on understanding signaling pathways ensuring precise regulation of DNA replication origins essential to prevent genome instability and cancer development. I am intrigued by how cells determine optimal formation of replication origins and how un-optimal levels of origins affect DNA replication and genome stability.

The potential to deepen the understanding of DNA replication process, how cells insure genomic stability, and identify novel regulators of DNA replication excites me the most.

What do you do when you are not in the lab?

I like to spend my free time relaxing, watching comic series, or cooking. I enjoy nature walks and hiking; an opportunity to spend time in nature is the best therapy for me.
